The 4 gifts of life...

I read a quote today in Danny Meyer's book, Setting the table, which really hit me...

"Within moments of being born, most babies find themselves receiving the four gifts of life: eye contact, a smile, a hug, and some food. We receive many other gifts in a lifetime, but few can ever surpass those first four."

I thought this was particularly interesting as it is something that we crave on an everyday occasion...it's also basics in customer service (well maybe not a hug, although that would be nice to get when walking into some restaurants!)

It's a really inspiring read! Thoroughly recommended!

The taste of home

Over Christmas 2010 I returned back to London after spending 6 glorious months in the South of France. I proceeded though Gatwick Airport's arrival hall to be greeted by my inspiration for starting this blog.

There in front of me was an advert for Heinz which left me with a huge grin on my face and a tingling sensation whizzing through my body causing the hairs on my neck to stand on end.

This may sound sacrilege but despite having access to the classic French cuisine which is famous all over the globe, sometimes all I really wanted was a tin of Heinz Tomato Soup. Was this really too much to ask for?!

The advert consisted of a display of some of the iconic sauce bottles that we all love in Britain brought to us by the multinational giant over the past 140 years. At the bottom of the poster was the strap line that made my arrival into UK all the more real.

"HEINZ,
WELCOME HOME"
